What you will do
As a Commercial Civil Lead, you will lead and build small teams focused on completing civil work and site preparation ahead of and in support of electrical teams who will follow behind you in the installation process to install electrical distribution systems, energy storage systems, car chargers, and solar systems. You will be working within the commercial department at Empire and own the full scope of civil projects. Your main responsibilities will range from demolition and excavation of spoils to site preparation and finishing of concrete footings, foundations, and pads. Project duration is typically a few days to a few weeks, and will generally be within the state of California. This position may require travel for the project duration.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Performing concrete construction-related tasks such as forming, rebar placement, pouring, and finishing
  • Operating machinery to prepare site for civil work by removing spoils, leveling ground, cutting pavement, and digging trenches
  • Reading and understanding blueprints to build work to specifications
  • Precisely placing underground conduits to stub up through new concrete pads
  • Supporting the installation of rooftop and ground mounted PV solar systems, energy storage systems, and high powered EV charging stations as needed
  • Coordinating with construction management to schedule and host necessary inspections
  • Estimating total quantities of materials required and placing orders for them
  • Leading and training a team of 2-3 individuals to assist in the completion of project scope

A little bit about you
You are looking to use your skills as an experienced concrete worker and leader to grow with us. You will be expected to help build and train crews of experienced construction workers to progress your career. You will also learn the basics of electrical contracting and the solar industry along the way. You are detail-oriented, take pride in your work, and are comfortable taking on additional responsibilities as needed. The ideal candidates will be capable of working with minimal oversight but also able to follow directions closely.

You also:

  • Have 3+ years of experience performing civil and concrete related work
  • Have experience and feel comfortable operating machinery such as mini excavators, walk behind trenchers, auger attachments, compactors, walk behind pavement saws, skidsteers, and telehandlers (boom lifts)
  • Are able to proficiently operate concrete pumps and concrete mixers
  • Are comfortable standing, bending, and lifting material on ladders and roofs
  • Have the desire and ability to learn new skills and trades as needed
  • Desire to train and mentor others on your team working under your supervision
  • Strongly want to grow with a fast paced, forward thinking, and competitive company to help build a team to support you
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Have a valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Are able to lift 50+ pound
  • Have 1 year of experience working in the solar industry a plus
